This was a crazy year, I lost and gained in equal measure. I had my fair share of the rude awakening of young adulthood. This year has been my most maturing yet; I fell, I rose, I graduated, I loved, I lost better still, I grew. 2017 made it clear that 2018 wasn’t going to be a ‘New Year, New Me’ kind of year. It is a year I am working on being redundant, particular and purely intentional. Intentional on who I am, what I want and how I want it. I am morphing into a butterfly, and I love every inch of it! We ain’t playing games no more.
1. Pray Always.
I know this is cliché, but does it ever grow old? Have you ever sat at a hospital ER waiting to hear how a loved one is fairing? That moment when you’re willing to sacrifice everything, just to hear their laughter? I found myself sitting there, teary and quite a mess. God brought me to my knees and the prayers I said that day and after that helped me find peace and solace. Prayer is not just After all don’t we all deserve peace of mind?
2.Friends; Blessing in Disguise.
I love my friends, and I am blessed to have such in my life. In between the months, when life decided to be particularly tough, I had people who would knock on my door despite how many times I shut them out. I realized the importance of vulnerability, letting others help through a rough time or the thrill of them being there during bubbly moments. 2017 led me to friends who are so dear, old friends who are pure gold and lots of fake friends I had to let go. I believe it is very important to make friends and family a priority for all it’s worth.
3. Anything Can Happen
Yes, literary anything. You can win the lottery, you can start a business, you can fall in love, you can go broke, you can have a baby! Existence is purely coincidental, I believe in fate but destiny, you have to work that one through. You never know what comes next so live your life. It’s yours anyway. Take that job, change your hair color, dance to your weird music, have your cake and eat it. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, so live your best life now!
4. Work, work, work…work on your dream.
I am not a millionaire, not just yet, but I am working towards it. Pay attention to your dream. Just to be clear, a dream is just a dream. It’s nothing if you don’t get up and work on it. Think about, visualize it, go out and get it working. Become intentional about your hustle. You only need your ‘YES’. What happens when you fly? Be grateful, keep it moving, keep it grooving, keep it alive!
Pick up something that sets your soul on fire.
5. Love Yourself and Let go.
Love yourself enough to embrace change. Love yourself to let go of all the pain and disappointments you’ve undergone this year. Forgive yourself, be kind to yourself, love yourself, let go of your faults. People change, friends leave, at the end of the day, you can be broke but you can always afford a million dollar smile. You come first, its only natural that you put your needs before the rest. Smile a little more…dry your own tears, fast. You are beautiful, you re worthy of diamonds and filtered gold. Give respect to those who earn it, reflect on who you are while radiating your best self. This year, it is ‘New Year, Intentional Me’.
I bet I’m ready, lets toast to a New Year!
