I just said, “NO!”

November 8, 2017

Screenshot_2016-10-28-15-38-41_1I am a proud millennial, I love my phone, being a couch potato and I live for the internet. I enjoy having varied opinions, and I understand what it means to agree to disagree. As a self-proclaimed feminist, the one thing I feel does not fit well in our recent age is rape. Rape is not funny. Rape is not something to joke about or even curse someone out with. Rape is WRONG. Rape is demeaning. Rape is inexcusable. Screenshot_2016-11-23-04-50-03_1_1

I have not met a single woman who has not in one way or another undergone sexual harassment at any point in their lives. It’s not fun, it is not something anyone dreams of undergoing.  I know once in a while, cat-calling may be fun to some, but when it gets to someone losing their dignity and being ripped off their innocence, it is not all fun and games anymore. I cannot fully comprehend the atrocities of the very evident, very present rape culture that exists amongst us. The painful bit, for me at least, are the women and innocent girls who have no one to believe in them, no one to listen to them and no one to comfort them. Rape has to stop.

An incident that happened in the Kenyan social media circles a few weeks back not only shocked me but also disgusted me. The fact that someone out there thinks it is even cool to be a considerable candidate for rape goes a long way to show who we are. I am not going even to get started on how demeaning that of rape is. It rips off confidence leaving an undeniable mark of innocence. Rape is the worst thing to happen to someone, anyone.
Screenshot_2017-04-19-06-25-04_1Respecting women is not an option, it is not a decision to make, it is not a seasoned thought or feeling. I understand the world revolves around money and women, but that doesn’t mean disrespecting who we are while sexualizing us to what one may deem to be their uncouth desires. I find it sad that someone can force things on someone. It doesn’t matter how short the skirt was or how tight the dress was; we do not have to explain the word ‘NO.’
I just said no. When you shove your unmentionables at me in the club, when you spank me as I board the matatu when you squeeze on the bank queue when you caress my thigh at the board table, that is sexual harassment. I just said, “NO!”, a good number if not all rape cases would never have happened if people understand the word NO. Respect the word NO.

I wanted to send you that tiny observation to help give many thanks over again regarding the superb views you have documented on this site. It has been particularly generous with you to allow unreservedly all that a few individuals would’ve offered as an ebook to generate some profit for their own end, primarily since you might have done it if you ever desired. The pointers as well worked to become fantastic way to fully grasp the rest have the same interest just as mine to know the truth significantly more around this problem. I’m sure there are several more enjoyable situations up front for many who find out your blog.
